FO: Hoodie & stuff

Here I am, typing and enjoying a week’s break from work. I don’t know what it’s called in the rest of the world (winter break, maybe?) but here in Finland it’s called “skiing vacation”. People usually take this vacation in the beginning of the year when it’s snowy. This winter has been a disappointment to many as there’s hardly any snow, at least not in the south of Finland. I don’t ski or do any wintery activities but it would still be nice to have some snow on the ground.

Well, despite the lack of winter wonderland-like scenery, I’ve had a nice vacation so far. Yes, I’ve been mostly knitting. On Tuesday I went to visit the Novita factory outlet in Lauttasaari, Helsinki, wonderful as always. Thankfully the shopping didn’t go entirely out of hand, this time I was a girl on a mission. I got yarn for the Cables an O’s cardigan from No Sheep for You and for the Drawstring Camisole from the newest Interweave Knits magazine. I bought also some Marine and Sofia yarn because they were on sale.

Yeah, and I also finished something, a hoodie from Stitch n’ Bitch Handbook. The yarn is Cherry Tree Hill Rainbow Ribbon that I bought from last year’s January sales. I’m really pleased with the result and I’m also happy that I made the smallest size, medium would have been way too big.

So what now? I thought it would be helpful to make a list of all the WIP’s so I can have some order and maybe finish something else soon. So, here goes:

Hexacomb Cardigan
I got my Interweave Knits Spring 2008 issue a couple of days ago and immediately started the Hexacomb Cardigan, which to me is so appealing, something that I could definitely wear at work. The pattern suggests a 100% cotton yarn but I’m attempting to make it from Suss Love that I have in my stash. I have just enough for the medium size.

Boyfriend Socks
One done, one to go. When the body of Hexacomb is finished, I’ll make the other sock, I promise. The boyfriend has asked for them three time now, so FINISH THEM! The yarn (Berroco Comfort Sock) is lovely so there’s no reason not to finish.

Fair Isle Sweater
Not going so well. The fair isle pattern is nerve wrecking and I’m thinking that the medium size is too big. I think I’ll have to suck it up and frog the whole thing and start again. Dammit. I’ll make the smallest size and knit the body in round as long as I can.

Foxglove Cardigan
I love the look of this cardigan. I ordered Rowan Calmer from Cucumberpatch and have started the back piece. Nice, easy (and brainless) knitting project with a lot of stockinette stitch. Rowan Calmer is such a nice yarn that the knitting should go well. I can’t crochet in English (sounds funny when I put it like that) so I’ll have to learn that.

Henley Perfected
Not so into this one but I’m not giving up yet. There’s a gauge problem with this project but I’m hoping that choosing a small size will solve it. Would be so lovely to have a sweater made entirely of soysilk.

New hairdo & FO:Happy Hat

Happy February everyone. Nothing going on here much, just work, work and knitting in the evenings. I was at the hairdressers yesterday, hairdo changed from this:

to this:

Pretty nice, I think. I've never had bangs before, looks really good but feels weird. I'll propably keep it for a while at least. I'm not very interested in my hair but I like to try new things. Growing up I always had really long hair and mom wouldn't let me cut or dye it. I'll see if I can find an old photo somewhere, my hair was crazy long then.

Now I can model my newest FO with my new do.

I bought a skein of beautiful faux-cashmere handspun from FeltStudioUK. I wanted a tam-like hat, this took the whole skein. This colourful hat brings color nicely to my winter wardrobe.

Here's a closeup of the yarn and the mock rib pattern.
